The deposed Kano Emir Aminu Ado Bayero has been awarded N10,000,000 for the breach of his fundamental rights, freedom of movement and personal liberty. The Kano state high court gave the order in the suit challenging Governor Abba Yusuf for ordering Bayero to vacate the state and evict Muhammadu Sanusi II from the Gidan Rumfa palace While the court said the governor did not have the right to order Bayero to leave the state, it declined to evict Sanusi from the Gidan Rumfa palace. . Recall that in May 2024, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano dethroned Bayero and ordered that he hand over public properties and leave the palace within 48 hours. Governor Yusuf then announced the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano Emirate. Bayero, who was not in Kano when the governor issued the order, returned to the state and moved into the mini palace in the Nasarawa area.
The action of Bayero angered Governor Yusuf, and he ordered the security agency to immediately arrest him on the ground that he was making moves to breach the peace of the state. The deposed Emir Bayero then headed to the court to challenge the action of the governor.
