The bank has appointed Mr. Adebowale Oyedeji as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer to lead its operations under the new mandate, effective January 2, 2024. The appointment, sanctioned by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), follows the expiration of Mr. Nath Ude’s tenure on November 6, 2023.
Wale Oyedeji brings extensive C-suite experience from a major Nigerian commercial bank and a proven track record of achieving revenue objectives, business turnaround, enhanced productivity, effective people management, operational efficiency, and risk control. He previously served as the MD/CEO of Guaranty Trust Bank UK and was an Executive Director of Guaranty Trust Bank Group, overseeing diverse industry-focused Corporate and Commercial Banking teams. His global perspective, garnered from executive roles in foreign and Nigerian environments, positions him as an ideal leader for NOVA Merchant Bank’s transformation.
As the pioneer Chief Executive Officer of the proposed NOVA Commercial Bank, Wale Oyedeji expressed his honor and excitement, foreseeing a positive transformation in the banking landscape. Mr. Phillips Oduoza, Chairman of the Board of NOVA Merchant Bank, emphasized the belief that Wale’s leadership, combined with technology and innovation, will enable the bank to compete favorably in the commercial and retail banking space. Wale, an alumnus of the University of Ibadan with degrees in Agricultural Economics and Financial Economics from the University of London, holds an Advanced Management Program (AMP) from Harvard Business School. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and an Honorary member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (HCIB).
