Ignite Energy Access Nigeria, a leading off-grid renewable energy provider, has completed a transformative pilot project that delivered solar power systems to 34 schools across rural communities in Nigeria. The project was executed over a two-month period, bringing stable and reliable electricity to schools that previously had limited or no access to power. With the installation of the MySol solar systems, classrooms can now power digital devices, extend learning hours, and provide a more conducive environment for students and teachers.
Beyond powering schools, the initiative also focused on building local capacity. Young people from the benefiting communities received hands-on technical training on the installation and maintenance of solar systems. Many of them were later hired and given paid roles to support the sustainability and expansion of the project, helping boost employment and technical skills in those areas.
The project spans 19 states, including Benue, Cross River, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Abuja, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, and Taraba. School leaders have expressed deep appreciation, noting that the installations have already brought excitement and meaningful improvements to their learning environments. One school administrator described the solar support as a truly impactful gesture that has made a noticeable difference in their daily operations.
Speaking on the initiative, Mangiza Phiri, Managing Director of Ignite Energy Access Nigeria, emphasized that access to power should never stand in the way of a child’s education. This vision aligns with the company’s wider mission. Ignite owns the MySol brand used in this project and is a key partner in the World Bank’s Mission 300, which aims to provide electricity to 100 million people by 2030. The company, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, currently operates in 12 African countries and already serves more than 20 million people.
